Carrie Belle Mitchell, daughter of Sample C. and May Lincoln Mitchell, was born on a farm at Dysart Station near Mt. Carroll, Ill., November 29, 1880.

In 1882 the family moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa, where they lived until her mother passed away June 7, 1885, leaving four children. At that time her maternal grandmother took the children back to her home in Sterling, Ill., where she lived until 1889 when she came back to Eagle Grove where she has continued to make her home with the exception of short intervals of time. She attended the local school and graduated with the class of 1899. After graduation she taught rural school at Elmore, Minn., one year. She has held numerous positions as cashier and bookkeeper for business firms in Mason City, Iowa, Sterling, Ill., and here.

She has been a zealous worker in the Junietta Rebekah lodge of which she was a member for more than 40 years. She was a member of the Methodist church and active worker in the Women's Society and missionary groups. The past few years she has been at home helping care for her mother whose health was falling. About six months ago her own health began to fail and in spite of surgery there was nothing that could be done. She slept away Friday, May 23.

She is survived by one brother, S. R. Mitchell of Paullina, four sisters, Mrs. Mary Clow of Winona, Minn., Mrs. William Hartshorn of Sterling, Ill., Miss Helen Mitchell of this city, and Mrs. Lewis Rossiter of Glen Ellyn, Ill., twelve nieces and nephews.

Mitchell, and Mr. and Mrs. Clark Mitchell, of Paullina; Mrs. L. J. Rossiter, James and Nancy Lou of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; Mrs. Mary Clow of Winona, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. K. M. Clow of Hastings, Neb., Mrs. C. M. Vokaty of Duluth, Minn.; Mrs. Effie Marfleet and Gerald Marfleet of Rock Falls, Ill.; Dr. Ella Johnson and Mrs. Lottie Woodell, Prairie City, Iowa.
