February 6, 1934 ---- March 30, 2018

Betty L. Martin was born February 6, 1934, to James Randolph and Jewell (Buchanan) Anderson. Betty attended Hume-Fogg High School in Nashville, TN and received her high school diploma in 1951. She met Walter Martin while he was stationed at Chanute Field, IL and they were married on October 5, 1952, at Park Ave Baptist Church, Nashville Tennessee. After their wedding, they drove up the Alcan Highway, together in a 1948 Kaiser where Walter was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, during the Korean Conflict.

While in Anchorage, Betty worked as a secretary for the Ford Motor Company. She enjoyed walking on Glaciers, dog sledding and working for the Welcome Wagon. Betty was proud of the 16mm movies Walter made of their Alaskan trips.

After the war in 1954, Betty and Walter moved to Renwick, where they started farming with Walter's parents, Bert and Pearl Martin. Betty "the city girl" quickly adapted to life on the farm. Betty soon gave birth to two sons, Dennis ('56) and Tom ('58). She loved her boys and enjoyed attending their school activities and cheering them on through 4-H, county fairs, and horse shows.

Betty loved to sew, bake, cook, and to take family vacations. The greatest enjoyment Betty had was talking to her brother Murray almost every day. She was active in the United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Bridge Club, and various Women's Groups. Betty unselfishly loved and cared for her family, she was always ready to help anyone in need and devoted her life to helping others.

In 2011 Betty and Walter moved to The Meadows in Clarion, IA. Betty had a massive stroke on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, and passed on March 30, 2018, Good Friday, with her entire family by her side.

She is survived by her husband, Walter; sons, Dennis (Diane Reed) Martin and Tom (Candice) Martin; grandchildren, Jessica (John) McCulley, Derek Palmertree, Jacob (Jenna) Martin, Michael Martin, Benjamin Martin, Lindsey Williams, Haley Martin, and Elizabeth Martin; great-grandchildren, Eric McCulley annd Alex McCulley; brother, James Murray (Bobbie) Anderson; sister in-law, Margaret Lubbert, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A funeral service for Betty L. Martin will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Renwick. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at The Meadows Senior Community in Clarion.
