May 11, 1928 --- July 3, 2018

Dolores Arlene Spangler daughter of Ralph and Bernice (Fisher) Ashpole was born on May 11, 1928 in Clinton, Iowa. She spent most of her childhood in Chicago where she developed the love for music and dancing. Dolores was united in marriage to Edward Spangler in Eagle Grove, Iowa at the United Methodist Church on May 8, 1957. Dolores and Edward made their home in Eagle Grove where they raised 3 children.

Dolores worked 33 years at Rotary Ann as a CNA until 2005 when she retired to stay home and take care of her husband and to help with her great-grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and loved to be outside in the garden taking care of all her vegetables and couldn’t wait for the first tomato to turn red.

Dolores was an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She spent her entire life taking care of her family and helping raise her grandchildren.

Dolores moved to Clarion in 2014, where she spent time in an apartment close to family before moving in with Shayne, Amy, and Cole for a year. In September of 2017, she moved to Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation. While there, she met some amazing staff and residents that tried so hard to make her feel welcomed and at home. They enjoyed listening to all of her great memories she enjoyed sharing of her family and all the great times she had in her life. Dolores passed away on July 3rd, 2018, at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family.

Dolores is survived by her children: Daniel (Theresa) Spangler of Des Moines and Cyndi Hennigar (Greg Block) of Livermore; grandchildren: Shayne (Amy) Hennigar of Clarion, Mike (Kellie) Hennigar of Eagle Grove, Dan (Danielle) Hennigar of Clarion, Tara (Jesse) Anderson of Des Moines, Sara Vestal of Des Moines, Deanna Block of Fort Dodge and Justin (Abby) Block of Ames; 22 great-grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and so many caring friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Bernice Ashpole; husband, Edward Spangler in March 2007; son; Alan Spangler; great-granddaughter, Tabitha Hennigar; brothers, Hobart and Lyle Ashpole and many other great family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 8th from 5-7 at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 9th at 10:30am at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, with Pastor Tom Roth officiating. Burial to follow Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
