Kenneth D. Nielsen, 68, of Dows passed away Monday, June 25, 2018 at his home in Dows. Funeral services for Kenneth Nielsen will be held on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 2:30 PM at First Lutheran Church, 206 West Ellsworth, in Dows with Pastor Laurel Meester officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Dows. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 100 North Lee Street in Dows and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Kenneth Dale Nielsen was born to Andrew and Marie (Kienol) Nielsen on December 16, 1949 in Hampton, Iowa. Kenny was raised on a farm west of Dows, attended and graduated from Dows High School. He later attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge. Kenny served in the United States Army during Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Dows. Kenny worked as a diesel mechanic at Snyder Implement in Dows before striking out on his own. He retired in recent years due to ill health.
Kenny loved attending late model super stock races, working in the pits as a mechanic. He enjoyed drinking coffee uptown every morning with the guys. He was also a member of the Dows American Legion post.
Kenny is survived by his siblings, Richard (Lois) Nielsen of Thornton, Rodger Nielsen of Verona, Wisconsin, Gary (Kathy) Nielsen of Rowan, Mary Anderson of Dows, Marlene (Dennis) Stearns of Woodburn, Iowa and Larry Nielsen of Eminence, Missouri; nieces and nephews Anna Nielsen, Corey Nielsen, Sarah Nielsen, Karla (Tim) Maynard, Laura (Matt) Hagen, Erin (Chris) Keller, Heather (Chris) Chambers and Kim (Joe) Hamilton; great-nieces and nephews Eve, Tessa, Austin and Michael; along with a host of other relatives and friends. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Keith, and his brother-in-law Clint Anderson.
