LeRoy John Habben, 92, of Eagle Grove, Iowa passed away Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion, Iowa. LeRoy John Habben was born on April 9, 1926 to John and Alice (Janssen) Habben in Palmer, Iowa. LeRoy grew up on a farm outside of Palmer with nine brothers and sisters (Herbert, Wilbert, Lewis, Art, Harris, Francina, Robert, Marcella, Donald) and attended the area country schools. In the 1940's, the Habben family moved to Manson, Iowa.

In 1944, he enlisted in the US Army and served in the European Theater. After being discharged from the Army, he returned to Manson and worked for Musselman's Hardware Store. In 1948 LeRoy opened Habben's Shoe Service, his first shoe repair and work clothing store in Palmer, Iowa. LeRoy married Jacqueline Jeanne Hottman on February 27, 1949 in Fort Dodge, Iowa after being introduced by her cousin on a blind date. LeRoy and Jackie made their home in Palmer and had two sons, Jonathan and Christopher. The family moved to Pocahontas, Iowa in 1954 where they opened LeRoy's Shoes. During that time, Julianne and James were born. In 1962 the family moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa and opened LeRoy's Shoes in the new location. LeRoy continued to work at the store for 31 years before retiring in 1993. He then began to work part-time for Ryerson's Auction & Realty in Eagle Grove for several more years.

LeRoy was a member of the Rotary Club and Masonic Lodge in Pocahontas. While in Eagle Grove, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was treasurer for many years. He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce where he held the position of Chamber President at one time. LeRoy was also instrumental in building the new Eagle Grove Library. LeRoy enjoyed attending dances with Jackie, family camping outings, golf, playing cards, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie, sons Jon (Kathy) Habben, Chris (Vikki) Habben, Jim Habben, and daughter Julie (Mark) Voss; ten grandchildren--- Tami (Josh) Cross, Kyle (Lindsay) Habben, Kellen Habben, Jayna (Trent) Scholl, Nathan (Stephanie) Habben, Elizabeth (Brad) Bilter, Laura (Jeff) Hudson, Kristina and Jenny Voss and Holly (Voss) Hoppe; eleven great-grandchildren: Josie and Walker Cross, Jerad and Jordan Habben, Grayson, Avery and Easton Bilter, Emmett and Claire Hudson, Conner O'Donnell-Myers and Carter Benson; brothers--- Robert and Donald along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters.

Visitation for LeRoy J. Habben will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, Iowa. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the same location. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Foust Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
