Henry Bertinius Thompson was born October 11, 1884, in Humboldt County, Ia., near Eagle Grove, the youngest of eight children of Hans and Bertha Larson Thompson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the country Ullensvang Church. Besides education in the country schools, Mr. Thompson attended Humboldt Business College and Waldorf College for brief terms. He was united in marriage to Ellen Severina Johnson of Eagle Grove on Feb. 3, 1910. Two children were born to this union. They are Minnie Burnette Thompson and John Henry Arden Thompson. Mrs. Thompson passed away in May of 1968. He farmed west of Eagle Grove most of his life, but also worked as a carpenter and in the local lumber yards, both before and after retirement in town.
He enjoyed unusually good health throughout his life until very recently, when he was hospitalized at Trinity West Hospital, Ft. Dodge. He passed away there on Tuesday, November 26, at the age of 90 years, 1 month, and 15 days. The immediate survivors are an older brother, Olaus Thompson, Los Angeles, Calif., his daughter, Burnette, Oakland, Calif.; a son, Arden "Toby" Thompson; four grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Orville Sanderson of the Samuel Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
