Last rites were held Monday morning at 9 o'clock in Sacred Heart Catholic church for a former Eagle Grove resident, Mrs. Flo Royal of Chicago, Ill. Mrs. Royal died Friday, Aug. 19th in a Chicago hospital where she had been a patient for two weeks. She celebrated her 90th birthday in this hospital on Aug. 9th. Death was attributed to bronchial pneumonia.
Mrs. Royal is survived by one son Leonard Royal of Chicago, with whom she made her home, two grandchildren, Mrs. Virginia Gingrich of Harrisburg, Pa., and James Royal of Chicago. Other survivors are four great-grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Murphy, Mrs. Mary O'Toole and Mrs. Nona Norris of this city.
A nephew of Mrs. Royal's, the Rev. Thos. O'Toole of Corwith was celebrant for the funeral mass. Interment was in the Collins family lot in Calvary cemetery. Pall bearers were, Gerald O'Toole, Matt Thielen, Dr. L. C. O'Toole of Le Mars, Paul Niebur, Robert Mathieu and John Henneberry.
Mrs. Royal, the former Flora Collins, was born in Indianapolis, Ind. in 1870, came to Eagle Grove as a young woman in the early days of the town, and resided here for the most part of her life time. When her son Leonard was transferred by the Chicago and North Western railroad to Mason City, the family left Eagle Grove, and in 1940 he was transferred to Chicago, where they have since resided. Following the death of Mr. Royal's wife, the former Mildred Simmons of this city, Mrs. Royal raised his two children, Virginia and James.
She was charter member of Court Madonna, 157, Catholic Daughters of America, which was organized here in 1911. She was also a long time member of the Royal Neighbors of Eagle Grove.
Attending the funeral from out of town were, Leonard Royal, James Royal of Chicago; Mrs. Virginia Gingrich, Harrisburg, Pa.; Dr. and Mrs. L. C. O'Toole, Tim and Mary of LeMars; Mr. and Mrs. George Lowery, Waterloo; Mrs. Cecil McNealy, Clinton, David and James Walton of Perry.
