Michael (Mike) Campbell, age 73, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of Gerald and Mildred (Sumners) Campbell on January 6, 1945, in Clarion, Iowa. He was baptized at a young age at the Church of Christ in Clarion. In 1963, Mike graduated from Clarion High School.
On July 18, 1965, Mike was united in marriage with Diane Poolman at the United Methodist Church in Clarion. Mike was manager of the meat department at B&W Grocery Store in Clarion. Mike and Diane then moved to Aplington and he worked at the Aplington Bank. After two years, they moved to Parkersburg and Mike worked at the Parkersburg State Bank. Mike joined with Aldrick Kneppe and began an insurance business. In 1976, Erv Mellema joined Aldrick and Mike and became Campbell, Kneppe & Mellema Insurance, which later became Campbell–Mellema Insurance and Realty. Mike was active in real estate for 40 years and was a businessman in the Aplington and Parkersburg area for almost 50 years.
Mike was a member of Prairie Lakes Church in Cedar Falls where he served as an elder and a deacon. He was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Parkersburg. Mike helped start the Lion’s Club in Aplington and Parkersburg, and was a past president of Parkersburg Chamber of Commerce and Beaver Meadows Golf Course. He was always instrumental in organizing Parkersburg Fun Days and local golf tournaments. In 1987, Mike was chosen Parkersburg Citizen of the Year. Mike loved to golf and attend local sporting events, especially those that his grandchildren were involved in.
Mike passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018, at his home in Parkersburg of natural causes. Mike is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Larry and Johnny Campbell. Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years, Diane; two sons: Chad (Tracy) Campbell and their children, Kaden and Caleb of Parkersburg and Mark (Jaime) Campbell and their children Devin and Collin of Norwalk, Iowa; one daughter: Deb (Shane) Oldenburger and their children, Madison, McKenna and Miranda of Parkersburg; and one brother, Charles Campbell of Arlington, Virginia.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at the Prairie Lakes Church in Cedar Falls, with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, and one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family for future donations to local charities.
