Linn Larson, 59, of Dows, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa in Mason City. He was born July 18, 1958, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, to Robert and Irene (Steffen) Larson. Linn graduated from Eagle Grove High School. He attended United Electronics Institute in West Des Moines as well as the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in Johnston. His education continued with many certification classes from various law enforcement centers. Linn's law enforcement career began in 1978 working as a patrolman for the city of Belmond. There he worked his way through the ranks and was promoted to Sergeant and became Chief of Police in 1983, serving for 23 years. Linn left Belmond Police Department after serving 28 years.

On December 22, 1989, Linn was united in marriage to Judy Klave. In 1993, the couple welcomed their pride and joy, daughter Heidi. In 2006, he accepted a position with Franklin County Sheriff's Office. In 2008, Linn was offered and accepted the Chief Deputy position. In 2016, he was elected as Franklin County Sheriff. During his career in law enforcement, Linn was involved in many organizations some of which include Iowa Law Enforcement Intelligence Network, NCINTF's Special Operations Group, as well as Sheriffs and Deputies Association.

He enjoyed kayaking, fishing, amateur radio and spending quality time with his daughter, Heidi. Linn was devoted to his work of law enforcement.

Linn is survived by his wife Judy Larson of Dows, daughter Heidi Larson of Waverly, brother Tim Larson of Des Moines, niece Janet (Carly) Larson of California, niece Jamie (Will) Holmes of Des Moines, niece Jodi Larson of Des Moines, aunt Nelda (Ernie) Kiley, aunt Betty Conaway, aunt Sonia (Joe) Martini, along with great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Joel Larson and aunts and uncles.

Celebration of life services: 1 p.m. Friday, May 18, at Church of the Living Word in Hampton, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. May 17, at the church. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home of Hampton is assisting the family.
