Robert N. Newman, 53, Webster City, died Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 20, at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 23, at 1:30 p.m. at the Church of Christ, Robert Scott officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Graveside flag folding services will be conducted by American Legion Post 191. Visitation at the Foster Funeral home will be after 6 p.m. this evening.
Robert Neil Newman, son of Roy and Nellie Caquelin Newman, was born May 6, 1936, in Webster City, where he attended Webster City High School. He served with the U.S. Army as a mechanic in Washington state. He married Thelma Roe on Feb. 24, 1957 in Webster City. The couple had always resided in Webster City. Mr. Newman was employed as manager of the Standard Service Station, at the corner of Second and Superior, for several years. He was also employed with Butternut Bread for four years, and for the past 13 years, was employed with the Iowa Department of Transportation.
He is survived by his wife Thelma, Webster City; seven sons, Paul Newman, Eagle Grove; Jerry Newman, Springfield, Mo.; Denny Newman, serving with the U.S. Army in Korea; Wes Newman, Jeff Newman and Chris Newman, all of Webster City; Mike Newman, serving with the U.S. Army in Colombus, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; his stepmother, Mamie Newman, Webster City; a brother, Larry Newman, Silver Springs, Md.; and a sister, Shirley (Mrs. Marion) Leeper, Kamrar. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Mr. Newman was a member of the Church of Christ, and the W.C. Cruisers.
