Dixie Dee Gates, 80, passed away on May 10, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born in Clarion, on March 10, 1938 to Stanley and Lola (Jaques) Herndon.

Dixie worked as a bus driver for 24 years for the Eagle Grove school district, she was a county dispatcher for Wright County and an EMS for Eagle Grove. She volunteered for various organizations.

Dixie is survived by sons; Rick (Elaine) and Dan (Diane) Gates; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; son Terry; sister Karen Peterson; brother Larry Herndon and grandson Jonathan Gates.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Saylorville Church, 6429 NW 6th Drive, Des Moines. Funeral services will be follow at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to Saylorville Church.
