Phyllis Ruth Bishop, age 79, peacefully departed this life and joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Tuesday, May 1, 2018, having succumbed to complications of a stroke in March. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 2nd followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 am at Skyline Baptist Church in Branson, Missouri.

Phyllis Ruth Van Roekel was born to Ray and Ada Brummel Van Roekel February 7, 1939, in Pella, Iowa. Phyllis had a younger brother, Jerry Van Roekel. The family lived in the Pella community through Phyllis' formative years. Upon the death of Ray Van Roekel, the family moved to Thor, Iowa. Ada married Carl Olson. To this union was born Tom Olson. Phyllis' half-sisters were Cathy Olson Meyer and Gail Olson Myers. In 1957 Phyllis married Keith Jenson of Fort Dodge, Iowa. To this union was born Steven Jenson and Michael Jenson. In 1968, Phyllis married Robert Malaise of Thor, Iowa. No children were born to this union. Robert had three children, Malinda, Roberta and Allen Malaise. The family lived in Eagle Grove, Iowa for a number of years.

Phyllis had worked in a doctor's office and also provided child care in the home for many years. She was active in the church and community and enjoyed gardening, sewing, and music. In 1975, Phyllis married Don Bishop of Indianola, Iowa. No children were born to this union. Don had two sons, Jeff and Doug Bishop. The family lived in Runnels and Altoona, Iowa. Phyllis and Don moved to Branson in the early 80's where they have enjoyed their retirement years. Phyllis was active in their local church, Christian Women's Club, and Bible studies. She also enjoyed making and giving away quilts to a children's ministry.

Family members preceding Phyllis in death are her parents Ray Van Roekel and Ada Van Roekel Olson, step-father Carl Olson, Cathy Olson Meyer, Gail Olson Myers, Jerry Van Roekel, Robert Malaise, Keith Jenson, and Steven Jenson. Those surviving family members include husband, Don Bishop, Tom Olson (Linda), Mike Jenson (Judith), Jeff Bishop, Doug Bishop, Malinda Krecl, Roberta Malaise (Gary Ostegard), Allen Malaise (Sandra), fourteen grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a host of friends and acquaintances.
