Myrtle Josephine Thielen, the daughter of Ormal L. and Julia (Shurson) Minor, was born July 5, 1927, at Kanawha, Iowa. She attended country school (Major #7), then Kanawha Schools and in 1942, they moved to a farm west of Goldfield. Myrt graduated from Goldfield High School in 1945 and then attended Eagle Grove Junior College. She taught country school until her marriage.

On December 27, 1949, Myrt was united in marriage with Joseph C. Thielen at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. Joe had been an owner/operator of Wimpy's Café, downtown Eagle Grove and then he and Myrt owned and operated Eagle Bowl for 46 years and Myrt ran the junior bowling league for 40 plus years. Myrt was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove and the Catholic Daughters of Americas.

Myrt passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove, at the age of 90 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe in 2008; Daughter, Barbara Jo in 2011; great granddaughter, Amanda Jo Lalor; sisters: Dena Johnson, Luella Hughes (Glenn), Gladys Spoon (Carrol) and Ramona Brooks (Robert); brothers: Joseph, Gayhard (Marie) and Orval (Elsie) and numerous brothers and sisters–in-law and nieces and nephews. Myrt is survived by her son, Mark Thielen (Deb) of Eagle Grove, daughter, Mary Wolver (Steve) of Urbandale and son, Michael Thielen (Margaret) of Eagle Grove; 8 grandchildren: Jennifer Brewer (Jason), Jessica Willard (Steve Claude), Joe Willard (Stacy), Josh Wolver (Heather), Erin Ogden (Jason), Sarah Ptasnik (Matt), Rachel Bennett (Matt), Dylan Thielen, Shelby Fisher and Veronica Fisher; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove with Father Jerry Blake celebrating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 P.M. with a Rosary at 4:30 P.M. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
