James Edward Oldson, of Richland, Washington passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018. He was born July 8, 1929, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He served honorably in the US Navy and married his wife May B. Oldson in 1954. The family moved to Richland in 1966. He was a local entrepreneur and business pioneer. Jim started his business career working as a Quality Engineer for Hughes Aircraft Corporation. He was recruited to Richland in 1966 by the Battelle Foundation to help spin off new technologies and diversify the local economy. In 1967 NORTEC CORPORATION was formed under his leadership and a product line was established based on ultrasonic and electromagnetic technologies. This firm proved hugely successful and was eventually sold to Staveley Enterprises in 1979. Jim was instrumental in forming and launching UniWest, a successful employee-owned high technology firm based in Pasco, WA, in 1984.

Jim was a lifelong golfer and charter member of Meadow Springs County Club. He lived on the golf course for over forty years which provided him and his family much pleasure and wonderful memories. Jim's wife, May B. Oldson, passed away in 1993. He is survived by his four children: Nancy Oldson and her husband Dean Aldinger of Richland, Sue Jameson and her husband Jim Jameson of Bothell, Kurt Oldson and his wife Jill Oldson of Richland, and Jimmy Oldson and his wife Rhonda Oldson of Theodore, AL; four grandchildren: Sarah Harris, Mary Seymour, Hannah Oldson and Kyle Oldson; and great-grandchildren Bryce Perry and Skyler Perry. The family invites you to a celebration of life at Meadow Springs Country Club on Sunday, April 22nd from 2 - 4 pm.
