Rev. Dr. Richard D. Waggoner was born on April 17th, 1928. He attended school in Popejoy, Iowa and graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City. He obtained his Master of Music Degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder and his Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Minnesota. Richard has three sons: Richard of Atlanta, Georgia, Mark (Monika) of Warsaw, Poland and Andrew (Caroline) Waggoner of New York, NY. He married Phyllis Halverstadt in 1975, who added William Halverstadt II (Pascale), and Christine Lawton (Pat) to his family. He was Organist/Choirmaster at Methodist Churches in Camden, Arkansas, and in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1965, he moved to Minneapolis, where he became Minister of Music, at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church for 30 years. In retirement he served as Organist/Choirmaster at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Church of Good Shepherd, and Hamline United Methodist Churches. Richard is survived by his wife Phyllis, three sons, 5 grandchildren, (Erin, Neva, Sally, Henry, Audrey), and 3 step-grandchildren (Claire, Samuel and Abigail), as well as by 3 great-grandchildren (Lily, Bailey, and William). After a long, full life, he died on April 10th, 2018. His Memorial Service will be at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church, 511 Groveland Avenue, Minneapolis, on Monday, April 16th, at 1 pm. Memorials preferred to the Music Program at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church.
