Marlyn Merle Watermiller, the son of Jacob and Nettie Watermiller, was born July 31, 1933 in Hampton, Iowa. He attended county schools and graduated from Belmond High School in 1951. While in school, he was active in basketball, track, football and baseball. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1954 to December 1955. On April 25, 1954, he married Jacqueline Riis. In 1959, he graduated from Drake University with a degree in accounting. He spent his career working at various life insurance companies before becoming a State Farm insurance agent, where he worked for 26 years before his retirement in December 1998.

Marlyn was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church for over 50 years. In addition to supporting the Drake Bulldogs, he was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan. He loved spending time with his family and grandkids. He could strike up a conversation with anyone anywhere anytime. He also enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee almost everyday.

He died Thursday, April 5, 2018 at his home in Des Moines, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Jackie, son Mark Watermiller, son Tim (Donna) Watermiller and daughter Heidi (Steve) Hansen, grandchildren Sady, Mark, Haley, Jade, Jake, Alexandria, Benjamin and Madelyn and great grandchildren Aubrey, Alissa, Ashton and Aiden. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin sister, Marlys.

Visitation will be held Sunday, April 8, 2018 from 1-2 pm at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2600 East Euclid, Des Moines. A funeral service will follow at 2 pm. Interment at Bethlehem Cemetery, Slater, IA, to follow at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church.
