A SAD ACCIDENT
An Aged Woman, Nearly Blind, is Burned to Death in Her Home

Webster City, Dec. 22. — An accident occurred at Woolstock, from the result of which Mrs. R. Fulton, aged 85, nearly blind, was burned to death. Mr. and Mrs. Fulton lived alone on the outskirts of the little town of Woolstock. After supper the old couple were sitting by the kitchen stove and both were enjoying a smoke, as was their usual custom. In some mysterious manner fire originated in the skirt of Mrs. Fulton's dress. It is believed she had ignited a match to light her pipe when, dropping it to the floor, the flame had not been extinguished and it caught in the folds of her dress. As soon as she discovered the fire she rushed to the kitchen and commenced drenching herself with water, but the supply was limited, and she was not able to accomplish much. Her husband realized the position she was in and rushed to the neighbors for assistance. The fire had done its work before he got back and the outer flesh was burned to a crisp, though the poor woman did not die for eighteen hours.
