Hazel Ruby Clair, the daughter of Russell and Ramey (Peterson) Bernsmeier, was born on December 9, 1920, in Hamilton County, Iowa. She received her education in the Jewell and Kamrar area. On March 11, 1939, Hazel was united in marriage to Charles Clair in Webster City. Hazel spent much of her life with her husband farming and raising two daughters. After leaving farm life, they moved into Jewell. She worked for two businesses in the Jewell and Ellsworth area for a time and then was employed by Iowa State University for 10 years. The last several years of Hazel’s life she resided in Eagle Grove. Hazel was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Hazel passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at the age of 93 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; parents; infant son, Louis; and brothers, Illiff and Calvin. Hazel is survived by her daughters, Kathy Lunda (Marlin), Sherry Banwell (Leigh), and grandson, Robert Lunda, all of Eagle Grove.

Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 17, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove with Jerry Smith officiating. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
