JoAnn Mardell (Stensland) Halverson, the daughter of Osmund and Ella (Saboe) Stensland, was born on March 6, 1930, in Badger, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1947. JoAnn was united in marriage with Joseph Iner Halverson on October 23, 1949, at the Badger Lutheran Church. They made their home in Eagle Grove and enjoyed 64 years of marriage. Joe preceded her in death on April 16, 2014.

JoAnn worked as a teacher's aide at the Eagle Grove Schools and many years for Iowa Public Service, retiring in 1995. JoAnn was an active member of Evangelical Lutheran Church – serving on church council, singing in the choir and church circle. She enjoyed flowers, traveling, cooking and cross stitching.

JoAnn passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada, Iowa at the age of 88 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Vern, LeRoyn and Darryl Stensland; son-in-law, Steve Cohen; sisters-in-law, Agnes Stensland, Noreen Stensland, Hilda and Olga Halverson and brothers-in-law, John Sandvig and Roger Halverson. Survivors include her three children: Barbara Cohen (Mark See) of Nevada, Joel Halverson (Gwen) of Eagle Grove and Suzy Partridge (Dave) of Ankeny; six grandchildren: Beth Wright (Jerry) of Kissimmee, FL, Jesse Cohen (Imelda) of Kissimmee, FL, Britt Cohen of Ames, Jessica Halverson of Boise, ID, Nick Partridge of Omaha, NE and Travis Partridge of Ankeny; five great-grandchildren: Quincy, Amaya, Jerry, Soraya and Stephen; sister, Del Sandvig of Humboldt; sisters-in-law, Joan Stensland of Eagle Grove, Gloria Stensland of Thor, Irene Olson (Vince) of Eagle Grove and Addie Halverson of Eden Prairie, MN and brothers-in-law, Carl Halverson (Dee) and Don Halverson (Doryce) of Eagle Grove.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 2, 2018, 10:30 a.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Foust Funeral Home. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove, Iowa in charge of arrangements.
