George Griggs Dies at Belmond; Rites Thursday

Goodell, IA - George Griggs, 84, died early Tuesday at the Belmond Hospital. He had been in failing health the last 15 years and a patient at the Finn Nursing Home, Belmond, the last year. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:45 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home, Belmond, and at 2 p.m. at the Baptist Church there. The Rev. H. A. McKinney will officiate and burial will be in the Amsterdam Cemetery.

Born Nov. 15, 1874, in Ackley, he was the son of John and Emily Griggs. He had lived on a farm in Avery Township the last 70 years. Surviving are four children, Mrs. Walter (Shirley) Neuberger, Ventura; Presley, Manly; Harold and Audrey, on the home farm near Goodell; two grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. L. W. Sherwood, Mrs. A. C. Carpenter, Mrs. J. J. Cook, all of Goodell. He was preceded in death by two wives, Mary and Martha; two children and a brother.
