Nashville, TN --- Jesse Cleveland Buchanan Jr., "J.C.", "Grandpa", age 93, passed away on December 21, 2013 In Nashville TN. Preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Cleveland Buchanan Sr. and Belle Russell Buchanan. Survived by loving wife of 63 years, Marian Martin Buchanan, sons Keith Martin Buchanan, Mark Edwin (Suzanne) Buchanan, grandchildren, Michelle Buchanan (Kyle) Rozuk, Allen Jordan Buchanan, and one great-grandchild, Camryn Belle Buchanan; brother Bobby Buchanan and sister Erla Toddy; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Jesse was a member of Woodbine Methodist Church and Sunday School Teacher of the Friendship Sunday School class and was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star and Free Masons at the John B. Garrett Lodge.

His college education at Middle Tennessee State University was interrupted by the war and he received his diploma via mail in China. J.C. served during World War II as an army navigator flying missions over the Hump in Kunming China. In 2000, J. C. and Marian were invited to return to China as formal guests of the Chinese Government honoring the soldiers for their commitment during the war. After discharge from the army with rank of Staff Sergeant, he continued his college education at Iowa State earning a master's degree and where he met his bride, Marian. J.C. and Marian made their home in Nashville where he was an industrial arts teacher and junior high guidance counselor until his retirement in April, 1982.

The family wishes to express special appreciation to Dr. Charles Daniels and to his care-givers, Christy, Linda, Victoria and Alive Hospice. Celebration of life will be on Friday, December 27th at eleven-thirty in Woodlawn's Dignity Hall, visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 26th from three o'clock until seven o'clock. A Masonic Service will take place following visitation at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Friendship Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Nashville, Boy Scouts of Middle Tennessee or charity of your choice.
