Gladys Lewis, age 68, passed away Monday, May 22, 1972 at Belmond, Iowa. Mrs. Lewis was born April 23, 1904 in Grundy County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Barney and Lizzie (Brumm) Franz. Mrs. Lewis was raised and educated in Grundy County and was graduated from Grundy Center High School. After high school she attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa and had done post-graduate work in other colleges. After college she taught in various schools in Wright and Hancock counties. Mrs. Lewis retired from the Klemme school system in 1969. She had been in failing health for the past five years.

On November 5, 1936, she was united in marriage to Ernest Lewis in Rowan, Iowa. Mr. Lewis passed away September 17, 1931. Mrs. Lewis was a member of the United Methodist Church, Hancock County Legion Auxiliary and Hancock County Historical Society.

Surviving Mrs. Lewis are several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister and one brother.

KLEMME — Mrs. Ernest (Gladys) Lewis, 68, died Monday at Belmond Community Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Klemme. The Rev. Howard Eldrenkamp will officiate. Burial will be in Klemme Cemetery with Willim Andrew Funeral Home in charge. Born April 23, 1904, in Grundy County, she was the daughter of Barney and Lizzie Brumm Franz. She was graduated from Grundy Center High School and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught in Wright and Hancock counties and retired from the Klemme School in 1969. She had been in failing health the last five years. She was married Nov. 5, 1936, to Ernest Lewis in Rowan. He died in 1961. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Hancock County Historical Society and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by, her husband, a sister and a brother. The only survivors are nieces and nephews.
