Forrest C. Mercer, 86, of Des Moines, Iowa died Sunday, May 15, 2005 at Wesley Acres Retirement Center. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, May 19 at Central Presbyterian Church, with a reception immediately following at the church. Private entombment will be in Resthaven Mausoleum.

Forrest was born July 29, 1918 in Marengo, IA to Nathan Smith and Carrie Mae (Hendershot) Mercer. He graduated from the University of Iowa Law School in 1941 and worked for the USDA/OPA until beginning his career with EMC Insurance Companies in 1949. He retired as a Claims Supervisor for EMC Insurance in 1983. Forrest was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters. He was also a supporter of various arts organizations in Des Moines.

Forrest was preceded in death by his wife, Veva Verna Mercer in 1985. He is survived by his daughter, Jenifer Mercer-Klimowski; son-in-law, Kevin Klimowski; grandson, Elliot Klimowski, all of West Des Moines; and sister-in-law, Merry Ruth Brauch of Rock Island, IL.
