Services for Roger G. Sobek, 56, of Garner who died Friday, May 1, 1998, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East Campus, Mason City, were held Tuesday, May 5, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner with pastor Kay Hooper officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Beverly Cataldo. Casket bearers were Benji Netland, Verlyn Olthoff, Harlan Block, Lyle Waddingham, Ed Lents and Larry Fredrickson. Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday at the Funeral chapel.
Roger George Sobek, the son of Fred and Ethel (Netland) Sobek, was born January 9, 1942, at Klemme. He attended school at Klemme. He worked at the Klemme Elevator, Farmer's Cooperative Creamery in Garner, Cinagrow in Garner and B.M.D., Inc. in Klemme. In 1992 he retired due to ill health. On October 22, 1966, he married Ellen Waddingham at the United Methodist Church in Klemme. They made their home in Klemme until they moved to Garner in 1993. Roger enjoyed fishing, bowling, camping and playing cards.
He was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Klemme where he was also a member.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Sobek of Garner; four brothers, Roland Sobek and wife, Kay of Klemme, Glen Sobek of Klemme, Doug Sobek of Klemme and Rodney Sobek and wife, Cindy, of Knoxville; two sisters, Beverly Clark and husband, Ken of Gladbrook, and Sheryll Klesel and husband, John of Garner; a special niece, Teresa Whitney of Emmetsburg: special friends, the Ed Lents family of Klemme and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
