December 10, 1928 ---- March 1, 2018

Betty Jane Sullivan was born December 10, 1928, in Clarion, Iowa, to Harold and Elva Sullivan. After attending Iowa State University, where she majored in Textiles and Clothing, she returned to Clarion to marry Paul Maxheimer, a farmer. The couple had one daughter, Paula, and later adopted two children, Debbie and Ronald.

In 1949 Betty started working in the county treasurer’s office and in the 60’s was elected Treasurer. After 33 years of service, she retired and moved to Vancouver, WA, where she sold Mary Kay cosmetics.

An accomplished musician, she was the school and church pianist and played the flute and piccolo in the school marching band. She sewed all her children’s clothing, and also enjoyed any arts and crafts, becoming a member of the Eclectic Needlers after her move to Vancouver.

Dancing was a passion. As a newlywed she square danced, and later she took lessons in ballroom dancing. She is a past president of the Laurelhurst Dance Club in Portland where she met her significant other, Del Doellefeld.

She loved to travel, complete her daily crossword puzzle, and fuss over her roses. Her friends and family, who she always greeted with a smile and a hug, will miss her warm and vivacious nature.

She is survived by her children: Paula Golob, Debbie Greiman, and Ron Maxheimer; grandchildren Devin Peterson, Jason Golob, Chad Jackson, J.R. Greiman, Danielle Greiman, Paul Maxheimer and Sarah Maxheimer; and great-granddaughter Dessa Peterson.
