6 August 1891 ----- 16 July 1962Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Kastler Funeral Home for Wilbur Baker, who died Monday evening at his home on North Cadwell Ave. He had been ill since Friday evening suffering from a heart ailment. He is survived by his wife, one son George Baker of Clarion, one daughter Mrs. Ronald Carter of Waterloo, six grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Edna Peterson of Pontiac, Ill., and Mrs. Galatea Weedman of Webster City; Glen and Harold Baker of this city.
Rev. Marion Blake will be the officiating clergyman for the funeral service and burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery.
Wilbur Baker was born in Webster City, Aug. 6, 1891, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Baker. The family moved to Eagle Grove when Wilbur was a young boy, and his father was in the monument business here and also served as mayor of the city. He graduated from Eagle Grove high school, and was a long time employee of the Chicago and North Western railroad. He was in the clothing business here for a time, and in October of 1934 joined the Eagle Grove city police force.
He was promoted to chief of police March 1, 1935 by the late L. E. Beer, the mayor at that time. He served the city of Eagle Grove as a law enforcement officer over twenty-seven years. In 1958 he began working on a part-time basis and was in charge of parking meter patrol. He retired from the department January 1 of this year.
