Albert J. McFarland, 36, of Route 2, Ellensburg, [Washington] died in Valley General Hospital here at 1:40 p.m., Thursday, of injuries suffered in a fall under a beet digger, October 27. His condition had been considered serious since he was first admitted to the hospital with multiple deep lacerations, fractures, abrasions, internal injuries and shock.
McFarland apparently fell from the seat of a tractor towing the mechanical beet digger, into the path of the digger and was dragged by it. The accident occurred at the Gerald Graaff farm on Route 2, here, between 6 and 6:30, Saturday as McFarland was returning the equipment to the farm house from a field where he had been working that day with a beet crew.
The deceased was born at Dows, Iowa, and received most of his schooling in Montana. He had lived in this district for the past 19 years, with the exception of the past year and one-half at Outlook, near Sunnyside. He was married here to Marjorie Robbins, November 9, 1946. The family had recently moved back to this area and purchased a place on Route 2 McFarland was a Navy veteran of World War Two.
He is survived by his widow, Marjorie McFarland, Ellensburg; two sons, James Harold McFarland, 4, and John Robbins McFarland, 22 months; his mother, Mrs. Earl Hester of Ellensburg; six brothers, LeRoy, Arthur and Levi McFarland of Ellensburg, Harley and Lawrence McFarland of Seattle, and Emery McFarland of Kent; three sisters, Mrs. Lester Stuard and Miss Gloria McFarland of Ellensburg and Mrs. Murrel Helland of Waitsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are to be conducted Saturday, November 3, at 2 p.m. in the Honeycutt-Evanson Chapel here, with the Rev. Dan Rueb officiating, and burial in the IOOF Cemetery.
