Dennis Max Moore was born March 1, 1947 to Max Moore and Lorraine (Haupt) Johnson in Clarion. He attended and graduated from Northeast Hamilton High School in Blairsburg with the class of 1965. Following high school, Denny attended Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls for a time, until being drafted into the United States Army. Denny served with the 7th Cavalry and the 75th Airborne Rangers during Vietnam. He was honorable discharge on September 12, 1968 and was the recipient of multiple honors and metals.

Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Denny worked at Electrolux in Webster city, before beginning a career as a salesman at the John Deere dealership in Buffalo Center. Later, he continued his career with John Deere in St. James, Minnesota, Roscoe, South Dakota and, most recently, in Hampton. Denny retired in March of 2017.

Denny was united in marriage to Cathy Ziebell at the Little Brown Church in Nashua on August 5, 1987. In addition to his career with John Deere, Denny and Cathy owned and operated My Place Lounge in Dows for more than 10 years.

Denny was an active member of the Dows American Legion Post, taking great pride in serving in the honor guard for funerals and the presentation of the avenue of flags at Fairview Cemetery.

Denny loved singing, and sang for a number of weddings and funerals over the years. In his earlier years, he played golf, loved car racing, and frequently attended Iowa State basketball and football games. More recently, he loved working around the acreage with his trusty rat terrier, Flash.

Denny will be lovingly remembered for his sense of humor. He was always able to make everybody laugh, and was easy to talk to. He is described as “an easy guy to like.” His honesty, willingness to help anyone in need, and unwillingness to say a bad word about anyone were among his finest qualities.

Denny is survived by his wife Cathy of Webster City; sons Duane Abbott of Des Moines and Jeff Abbott of George; grandchildren Ryleigh and Logun; mother Lorraine Johnson of Iowa Falls; sister Diane (Carlos Alcantara) Moore of Tampa, Florida; along with several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Denny was preceded in death by his father Max and sister Deborah Fillho.
