Raymond P. Donat Jr. of Kanawha Iowa and formerly of Griswold, CT, passed away unexpectedly on February 3rd, 2018. Raymond will be remembered for his passion of motorcycles and sports, and having a kind heart and big laugh. He was born in Norwich, CT, grew up in Griswold, CT and graduated from St. Bernard High School in 1986 where he was a member of both the wrestling and football teams. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS John Kennedy. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Connecticut for several years. He later moved to Massachusetts, and then relocated in Iowa.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Mary and Lee Sorenson of Collinsville, IL, brother David (Deborah) Donat of Salem, CT, sister Jennifer (James) Rosebrock of Springfield, MO., as well as nieces and nephews, Carson, Casey, Eva, Evan, Delaney, Emma, Isabelle and Ethan. He will also be sadly missed by special friend Linda Aleman of Kanawha, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond P. Donat Sr.

Family and friends are invited to a mass at Saint Patrick's Cathedral Norwich, CT on Saturday February 10th at 10am followed by a reception at V.F.W 594 at 30 Connecticut Ave Norwich, CT. Donations to help defray funeral expenses may be sent to the Raymond Donat Memorial Fund on GoFundMe.

Raymond P. Donat, Jr., 49, of Kanawha died Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held 6 P.M., Wednesday, February 7th at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt with Fr. Jim Dubert officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Raymond Paul Donat, Jr., the son of Raymond and Mary (Ogle) Donat, was born March 19, 1968 in Norwich, CT. Ray graduated from St. Bernard’s Catholic High School in Montville, CT in 1986. He served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS John Kennedy for four years. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home to Connecticut and later moved to the Britt area settling in Kanawha. Ray was employed at Monson and Sons in Britt and most recently at Global Processing near Kanawha.

Ray is survived by his mother, Mary Sorenson of Collinsville, IL; brother, David (Deborah) Donat of Salem, CT; sister, Jennifer (James) Rosebrock of Springfield, MO; nieces and nephews, Carson, Casey, Evon, Eva, Delanie, Emma, Isabelle and Ethan; an uncle, Donald (Beverly) Ogle; and special friend, Linda Aleman. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Walter and Hattie Ogle; and paternal grandparents, Felix and Helen Donat.
