Died In Manila.
J. H. Smith, of Eagle Grove, has received a cablegram from Manila announcing the death of his son, William B. Smith, from the results of wounds sustained in a skirmish with the Filipinos on the 24th of February. Smith was one of the brightest young men in the First South Dakota regiment. Last spring he graduated at Rapid City, S. D., from the school of mines and proposed to follow mining engineering at a business which opened to him a great future. With the opening of the war he enlisted and served with the same faithfulness he devoted to his studies.
