Lisa Marie Shepherd Jenkins, 43, of Nevada, Iowa passed away July 1, 2015. A memorial service is planned for 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 10, in the Great Hall, Iowa State University Memorial Union.

Lisa was born Jan. 27, 1972, to John E. and Marianne (Haderer) Shepherd in Humboldt. Lisa graduated from Iowa State University in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in agronomy and seed science and a master’s degree in plant pathology in 1999. Lisa was the seed health testing coordinator for the Seed Science Center at Iowa State University. During her career, Lisa served as director of the administrative unit of the National Seed Health System (NSHS); chair of the American Seed Trade Association Emerging Diseases Committee; chair and member of the American Phytopathological Society Seed Pathology Committee; and as a member of the National Seed Health System/Plant Protection and Quarantine/National Plant Advisory Group.

Lisa and Andrew Jenkins were married Dec. 17, 2000, in the Campanile Room of the Memorial Union at Iowa State University. Lisa was in constant motion whether at work, on the RAGBRAI route, or cheering loudly at a Cyclone game. Lisa and her husband, Andy, loved to travel, frequently arranging group adventures for family and friends. Ever adaptable, she was comfortable in any environment, whether it was inspecting a muggy corn field, reading a book on a beach, blazing a trail down Michigan Avenue, or quietly working in the background at a meeting. Lisa helped everyone around her be a better person. Her real super power was bringing and keeping people together. Lisa was fiercely loyal, bizarrely photogenic and very loved.

Lisa is survived by her husband, Andrew Jenkins, of Nevada; her mother, Marianne Shepherd, of Humboldt; her sister, Kim (Ed) Bartels, of Lisbon; and one niece, Rachel Bartels. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her father, John Shepherd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the family. Adams Funeral Home in Ames is assisting the family with arrangements.
