GENEVIEVE MARY MELHUS
Genevieve Mary Rohrer was born on a farm south of Clarion, Iowa, on September 4, 1903, the daughter of Edward and Catherine Schumacher Rohrer. She grew to womanhood and received her education in the area of her birth. In February, 1925, she and
Ordean Melhus were married at Clarion where they raised their family of five children. He died in 1948. For several years, she cooked at the Clarion School. In October of 1998 she moved to Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the Navy Mothers.Genevieve Mary Melhus died on Friday afternoon, January 8, 1999, at the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove at the age of 95. Survivors include three sons, Kenneth and wife, Beverly, Eagle Grove, Robert and wife, Sharon, Pecular, Mo., and Lee and wife, Virginia, Clear Lake, Iowa; two daughters, Yvonne Slevin, Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Jean Ann Johnston, Iowa City, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Russell Rohrer, Seattle, Wash.; and one sister, Catherine Jerde, Webster City, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Vernon, Chuck, Donald, and Harold; two sisters, Isabelle and Eleanor; and one grandson.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. John's Catholic Church, Clarion, on Tuesday, January 12, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. with Father Wayne Droessler officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Clarion. Willim Funeral Home in Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.
