Bernice Irene Lister was born February 18, 1910, to Thomas J. and Laura Folkedahl Lister on a farm east of Goldfield. She attended rural country school in Wright County and graduated from Goldfield High School in 1928. She went to the Methodist School of Nursing where she received her education while she worked. After training she practiced private nursing, and also worked in the hospital setting. She was united in marriage to Orvel R. Griffith on June 23, 1933, at her home east of Goldfield. After their marriage, she continued to practice nursing and cared for maternity patients in her home, assisting in the delivery of more than 50 babies. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, the Ladies Legion Auxiliary in Goldfield, and the Bayview Study Club for over 50 years.

Bernice Griffith died Saturday, November 15, 1997, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion at the age of 87. Survivors include her husband, Orvel, of Goldfield; two sons, William Dean Griffith and wife, Anne, of Alexandria, Va., and Rodger Jon Griffith, and wife, Cheryl, of Newport Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Glen LeRoy Griffith; brother, Eugene Lister; and sisters, Evelyn and twin sister, Beatrice.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday (today), November 19, 1997, at 1 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield with the Reverend Ellen G. Brantley officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield.
