Funeral services for Sandra L. Fontana, 65, Humboldt, were held Saturday, Dec. 13, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Humboldt, with burial in the Ankeny Memorial Gardens in Ankeny. She died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt. The Mason - Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt was in charge of the arrangements, with the Rev. William Schreiber officiating.

Survivors include her husband, Lou Fontana of Humboldt; sons and daughters-in-law, Louis, Jr. and Carmel of Hackettstown, NJ, and Stephen and Fran of Littleton, CO; daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Andy of Dallas, TX; Michelle and Ryan of Omaha, NE; and Erin of Columbus, OH; eight grandchildren; and her mother, Rose Foust of Friendship Haven, Fort Dodge. She was preceded in death by her father, Lyle Foust, in 1995.

Sandra L. Foust, daughter of Lyle and Rose (Verrips) Foust, was born Aug. 12, 1938, in Warren County. She graduated from Ankeny High School in 1956, where she was the class valedictorian. In June, 1958 she was united in marriage to Louis Fontana in Elkhart. She attended Iowa State and the University of Iowa, before redirecting her energy towards raising her first four children. She returned to school and graduated from Buena Vista, with a teaching degree, and subsequently obtained a master's degree from Drake University. While simultaneously teaching, she raised her fifth child, Erin. She was a teacher in Goldfield Schools, and spent 18 years at Twin Rivers in Livermore, before retiring in 2001. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
