Richard Roy Baker was born on April 18, 1934 in Scranton, Iowa to parents, Charles and Gladys (Dillinger) Baker. On December 9th, 2017, Richard passed away with his wife and daughters by his side. He was 83 years old. Richard enlisted into the United States Marine Corps at the age of 19. He served honorably during the Korean War until he was discharged in July of 1955. Richard not only served his country, but he was called to serve the community in which he lived. For over 32 years, Richard worked for the U.S. Postal Service and was a rural mail carrier in Dows, Iowa. He retired from the Postal Service in October of 1998.

Richard married Bonnie Dockwell on April 4, 1987 in Dows, Iowa. To cherish his memory, Richard leaves behind his wife, Bonnie Baker of Georgetown, Texas; daughter, Marcia Kelly and husband Bob of Boulder, Colorado; daughter, Mindy Van Hercke and husband Jim of Olathe, Kansas; son, Merle Waters and wife Barb of Lakeville, Minnesota; daughter, Marshelle Regenold and husband Darrel of Ft. Worth, Texas; brother, Norman Baker of Meridian, Idaho; sister, Elizabeth Lee of Marshalltown, Iowa; grandsons: Corey McCandless and Brandon Hathaway; as well as granddaughters: Molly and Annie Waters. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Gladys Baker.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27th, 2017 in the Chapel of Ramsey Funeral Home. Chaplain Larry Zabcik will be presiding. A reception will follow the service in the Reception Hall of Ramsey Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Wesleyan Hospice, 2100 Scenic Dr. Georgetown, Texas 78626. A Celebration of Life will be held in Iowa at a later date.
