Gone to Her Reward.
Mother Melrose, aged 85 years, 8 months and 18 days, mother of N. M. Melrose, died at Acton on Jan. 18, 1901. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. Jones, Lancaster, Jan, 20.
Mother Melrose was born in Kennebec county, Maine, April 30, 1815. She moved with her parents to Edwards county, Ill., in the year 1818, where she was married to Wm. Melrose in 1836, and with her husband moved to Iowa in 1856, where they lived until coming to California in 1887. She was converted in 1838, and united with the Methodist Episcopal church.
Hers was a long eventful life; but through all she remained a faithful Christian, never swerving from duty, always standing on the Lord’s side, faithful even unto death. She was one of those, who, as they pass the dark river, hear the welcome, “Well done thou good an faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” – Lancaster (California) Gazette of Jan. 25th.
