January 27, 1924 --- November 19, 2017

Carol Jean Jorgensen, 93, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, peacefully entered her heavenly home on Sunday, November 19, 2017, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. Carol was born on January 27, 1924, to Oscar and Clara Lekwa of rural Dows, Iowa. She was one of five children. Growing up on the family farm, Carol attended Dows Country School and high schools in Eagle Grove and Fort Dodge.

Carol married Kenneth Jorgensen in 1941, and they were parents to one son and two daughters. Carol was proud of her work as wife and mother and maintained numerous other jobs throughout her life. The Jorgensens owned and operated one of the first drive-in restaurants in Fort Dodge for several years. After selling it, they managed motels in Plainview, TX and San Antonio, TX. Ken and Carol later re-located to Lake Worth, FL, where Carol worked as a bank teller and later a court transcriber, until Ken’s ill health brought them back to Fort Dodge in 1981. After Ken’s death in 1985, Carol moved to Strawberry Point in 1989 where she resided at the Gernand Center until 2016.

Carol’s Christian faith was a very important part of her life. She was confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge in 1945 and remained a member there for most of her life. At St. Olaf she was active in ladies’ circles, bell choir, numerous bible studies, and altar guild. Carol enjoyed spending time with family and friends and could often be found reading a good book. She was admired for her green thumb and her sense of style.

Carol is survived by her two daughters, Judy Wulfekuhle of Edgewood and Vickie (Robert) Lilly of Hobe Sound, Florida; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her son, Kenneth Gene; her parents, Oscar and Clara; her four siblings, Grace (Perry) Price, Virginia (Art) Scharf, Marjorie (Harold) Peterson, and Virgil “Bud” (Barbara) Lekwa; and her son-in-law, Dr. Kenneth Wulfekuhle.
