Bette (Ulstad) Blue

April 2, 1934 ---- November 10, 2017

Surrounded by her children, Bette Corrine Blue passed away peacefully on Friday, November 10, 2017 and is safe in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Bette was born to Clifford Ramon Ulstad and Bessie Marie (nee Godfrey) in Eagle Grove Iowa. For many years, it was thought that Bette's birth date was April 3rd 1934. It was not until 40 + years later that it was discovered she was actually born on April 2, 1934. From that day forward, her birthday was often a source of confusion to her mother, surprise to Bette, and amusement to her children.

Bette graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1952, before meeting the man who would become her husband, James Arthur Blue. Bette and Jim were married in 1955 and moved to El Paso, Texas where Jim served in the United States Air Force. The couple returned to their Midwestern Iowa roots to start a home and family, eventually settling on a farm east of Webster City known as Blues' Bluff.

Bette remained in Webster City until her death where she held several jobs and raised her large family of six children, including twins. In 1973, when Bette's husband was involved in a debilitating automobile accident, it became necessary for her to raise her children on her own, and she moved the family off the farm and into the city.

Jim's death in 1984 and her children's growing up and leaving home provided Bette the opportunity to focus on her interests. Bette was a devout member of Asbury United Methodist Church and an active member of the Democratic Party. She enjoyed attending Senator Harkin's annual steak fries, and faithfully worked the polls on Election Day. She also enjoyed being a member of her bridge club and loved to play cards. Bette liked pie; but she did not like raisins. Bette had many, many friends.

Bette was preceded in death by her husband James, her father Clifford, who perished in the Chatterbox Café explosion in 1973, her mother Bessie, a grandson Arron Tefft, and three brothers, John, Ramon and Bruce. She is survived by her children, Cheri Tefft, Shelley Blue, Kristi Blue, Lori Blue, Lee Blue, Rachel Blue and two grandsons, Nate Tefft and JD Blue.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City with Pastor Jeff Flagg officiating. Visitation will also be Thursday, from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Burial in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City. Memorials may be left to Asbury United Methodist Church, - 921 Des Moines St., Webster City, Iowa 50595. Foust Funeral Homes of Eagle Grove and Goldfield in charge of arrangements.
