Frances A. Groen, 94, a long time Meservey resident, died September 18, 2017 in Pleasant Hill. Services will be Saturday, Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Meservey. Friends and family are welcome to gather before the service to visit and celebrate her life. Burial will be at the Meservey Cemetery. Lunch will follow the service.

Frances was born June 9, 1923 in rural Meservey to John R. and Tena (Ostendorf) Schmidt. She graduated from Meservey High School in 1941 and married Marvin R. Groen later that year. They lived in Chicago for about two years, then moved back to the Meservey area. They had two daughters, Ronda Lee and Sheila Jean.

Frances was a school cook at Meservey for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking, and cooking which she did for many people. She was a dedicated member of First Reformed in Meservey for most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband (1977); daughters Sheila Greenwood (1980) and Ronda Pals (2009); brother Ralph Schmidt and his wife Dorothy; sister Esther Boelman and her husband Herman; sister Arlene Kaldenberg and her husband John; sister Loraine Bertilson and her husband Maynard; and the entire Groen family. Frances is survived by her sons-in-law Delbert Pals and Tim Greenwood; grandsons Marty Pals, Scott Pals, Lance Pals and Tim Greenwood; granddaughters Jennifer (Greenwood) Cornelius and Katie (Greenwood) Price; and great-grandchildren Kyle, Alex, Ranae, Sierra and Ava.
