Mary Jane Barnes Mead

February 18, 1897 ---- March 3, 1977

The funeral for Mrs. Mary J. Mead, 80, who died Thursday at her home at 420 Twentieth St. S.E., will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the Welter Funeral Home with the Rev. Ballard Blount officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harlan Wold, Leland Scheel, Earl Bartells, Clayton Carter, Arthur Olson and Jack Hurd. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday all day.

Mary Jane Barnes was born Feb. 18, 1897, at Webster City, Iowa, to William and Alice Barnes. At the age of four she came to the Huron area with her parents. She married Ralph Mead in November 1916. They farmed in Dearborn Township until 1945 when they moved to Huron.

Survivors are one son, William, Arapahoe, N.C.; one daughter, Mrs. Leonard (Blanche) Poe, Pierre; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1945, one brother, two sisters and her parents.
