RANKINS - John Marion Rankins of 394 South 37th, Springfield passed away in Roseburg [Oregon] February 13, 1978 at the age of 85. He was born April 29, 1892 in Rowan, Iowa and was married March 19, 1949 in Eugene to Elma Helena Walders. He had lived in this area since 1909. He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of Barracks Number 33 in Eugene, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2965 in Springfield. He retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad after working many years as a boilermaker. He is survived by his wife, Elma Helena; one son, Clyde Merril Rankins of North Bend; seven step-children: Ruth Elmira Beyerlin and Kenneth Willard Knutson both of Springfield, James Oliver Knutson of Seattle, Helen May Gillan of Droop, West Virginia, Junez Angeline Butler of San Jose, California, Beverlee Maxine Williams of San Lorenzo, California, John Knutson; one brother, Louie Rankin of Eugene; three grandchildren; many great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 16, 1978 at 11:30 a.m. in the CHAPEL OF MEMORIES FUNERAL HOME, 345 West 11th, Eugene, with Barracks Number 33, Veterans of World War I, officiating. Interment in Franklin Cemetery. Visitation till 8 p.m. tonight, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
