September 24, 1884 ---- April 1, 1924

Mrs. Peter B. Hovland died at her home on North Wright street Tuesday afternoon after a brief illness. Again, it is our sad and reluctant duty to record the death of a mother of six children. Mrs. Hovland was quite well known, especially among Lutheran church circles, where Mr. Hovland has been choir director for so many years. The entire community extends to the sorrowing and bereaved husband and children its most sincere sympathy in the hour of their great loss.

The following notes of Mrs. Hovland's life were prepared by Rev. Severtson.

Anna Sophia Vevle Hovland was born at Lonevaag, Bergen, Norway, Sept. 24, 1884, of the parents Rasmus and Bertha Vevle. She came to the United States to La Salle county, Illinois, with her parents at the age of one and one-half years, where the family lived about five years, then she came with the family to Eagle Grove, Iowa, where she has since lived.

She received instruction from Rev. H. C. Holm and was confirmed Nov. 13, 1898, and when her church was visited by a spiritual revival in 1908 she was also blessed and she renewed faith with her Savior, which promise she endeavored to keep.

She graduated from the Eagle Grove high school with the class of 1904 and taught rural schools for four years. On June 24, 1908 she was married to Peter B. Hovland. To this union six children were born, Bernice, Rueben, Pearl, Harold, Verna, and infant Kenneth. She was a devoted mother, who lived for her home and for the family.

After a brief illness she passed away Tuesday afternoon April 1st, aged 39 years, 3 months and 8 days, leaving her husband, six children, her aged mother, Mrs. Vevle, whom she has cared for for several years, and three brothers, Oliver Vevle of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Rev. Carl Vevle of Pontiac, Ill., and Prof. Mendus Vevle of Hutchinson, Minn, also one sister, Mrs. Gladys Summers of Clear Lake, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon from the home at 1:30 and the East Side Lutheran church at 2:00 o'clock. Interment will be in Rose Hill cemetery.
