A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Renwick. Visitation will be one hour prior.
Jared Mark Sawyer was born on April 3, 1966, in Fort Dodge, the youngest son of Richard and Kay (Cayou) Sawyer. He grew up in Renwick and graduated from Boone Valley High School in 1984. Following high school, he attended Iowa Central Community College for a short time. He held various jobs throughout his life, but he felt his main job in his life was bringing people to his lord, Jesus Christ. Jared was a modest man and enjoyed the simple things in life. He was a very devout individual. His faith was a big part of his life. Prayer and reading his Bible was very important to Jared and he made it part of his daily life. He always strived to be the best Christian he could be. He enjoyed movies, music, traveling and watching sports, especially college and NBA basketball. In his younger years, he was a big fan of the Star Wars franchise and Planet of the Apes. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and none of them ever knew him to say a negative word about anyone.
Jared died Monday, Oct. 16, 2017, at his home in Boone at the age of 51. He is survived by his parents, Richard and Kay Sawyer, of Renwick; siblings, Sandy Sawyer, of Boone, Sue (Craig) Slattum, of Joice, Jeff Sawyer, of Carroll, Jay (Carri) Sawyer, of Bettendorf; nieces and nephews, Abbey (Troy) Hess, of Davenport, Jordan (Kassandra) Sawyer, of North Liberty, Troy Sawyer, of Bettendorf; great-nephew, Oliver Sawyer, of North Liberty; and many aunts, uncles and friends. Preceding him in death was his infant brother, Jay Michael Sawyer.
