Funeral services for Aeiko Koenen were held Nov. 7, at Meservey Reformed Church. Rev. E. Kampman in charge, assisted by Rev. O.G. Poppen. B. Koenen, J. R. Schmidt and Dick Dirks sang “Home Over There”, “Shall We Meet”, “Nearer My God To Thee”. Pallbearers were Legion Members, G. E. Raecker, Carl Stadtlander, Nels Faaborg, Andrew Miller, Ernest Eckhoff, Andrew Faaborg.
Aeiko son of Mr. and Mrs. Aeiko Koenen, Sr. deceased, was born Feb. 5, 1895 near Latimer. He
was raised and brought up in a family of 12 children who are living, except 2 sisters. Aeiko spent most of his life at home on the farm with his father. After the death of his father he and his two brothers Henry and Joe continued farming for years on same place. In 1937 they dissolved and Aeiko entered the implement business engaging in the same for about a year. Afterward he did trucking.Mr. Koenen was inducted in U.S. Army July 23, 1918 and served in France with 161 st. Reg. He was honorably discharged on Mar. 6, 1919.
It was a shock when he met death Fri. Nov. 4, while walking on the road toward Meservey where by side of road his body was found the same evening. Mr. Koenen passed away on Fri. Nov. 4, 1938 at age 43 yrs. 8 months and 30 days. Those that mourn his departure are 5 brothers, and 4 sisters. Two sisters preceded him in death, Mrs. Tony Boelman and Mrs. William Kaduce.
