Mrs. Bernard Dies At Home in Ames

Funeral services for a well known, former Clarion resident, Mrs. R. D. Bernard, 73, of 1316 Roosevelt Ave., Ames, were held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Adams Funeral home in Ames, with the Rev. W. Murray Allan, pastor of the First Congregational church, officiating. Interment was at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, in the East Side cemetery, Elkader, with the Rev. George Richter, former pastor of the Clarion Congergational church, in charge.

Mrs. Ransom D. Bernard, died at her home Wednesday night, Mar. 26. She had been ill with arteriosclerosis for 11 years. Bernice Corlette, daughter of L. Belle Hall and Horace Benjamin Corlette, was born at Monona. She went to Ames with her family in 1900 and was graduated from Iowa State college in 1904.

She and Dr. Bernard were married in Ames in 1909. The couple made their home m Clarion until 1950 when the doctor retired from practice. He then became general manager of the Iowa State Medical Society in Des Moines. They resided at the Commodore hotel until returning to Ames in 1954.

Mrs. Bernard was a life long member of the Congregational church and was active in church work. She helped organize and was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 246, Clarion. She was a charter member and past president of Chapter FS, PEO Sisterhood, Clarion, and was a member of Chapter HX, PEO in Ames. For fifty-five years she had belonged to Adah Chapter, O. E. S. at Clarion. Other organizations of which she was a member were the Monday club, Clarmond Country club, and two bridge clubs at Clarion and the Clover club, Delphian Study Course at Ames.

Survivors include her husband, a daughter, Mrs. H. M. Black, Ames; two brothers, Lyle Corlette of Cynwyd, Pa., and Dean Corlette, Houston. Tex., and two grandchildren, Bruce and Bernice Black.

Out of town relatives attending the service were Lyle Corlette, Cynwyd Pa., Mrs H. E. Bickel and Bruce, McGregor; Pfc. Btuce B. Black, Fort Carson, Colo., Hale Corlette, Farmersburg, Earl Corlette, Castalia, Miss Beulah Black, Grundy Center and Mrs. J. M. H. Black, Hudson.
