Council Bluffs, IA --- Reverend Max I. Hall, age 87, longtime United Methodist Minister, passed away September 13, 2008. Born June 14, 1921 in Decatur City, Iowa to Roy R. and Esther E. Davis Hall. Max attended Graceland College, Simpson College and Drake University. He entered the United States Army in 1942 and served during World War II until 1946. He enlisted again from 1951-1952 during the Korean Conflict. Rev. Max Hall served in the following congregations: Lamoni, Garden Grove, Mingo, Northboro, Dows, Rudd, Cedar Rapids, Anita and Council Bluffs at Broadway Methodist. Max has served as a minister for over 52 years. His memberships included Kiwanis club, Anita American Legion, longtime volunteer at Jennie Edmundson Hospital, and active member of Broadway Methodist Church.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys L. Hall in 2001. Survivors include his wife, Marylea (Schwenn), whom he married on April 5, 2003; his children: sons, Douglas and wife Alice Hall, of Leavenworth, Kan., Dennis Hall, of Mt. Vernon, Iowa; daughters, Ruth Cole and husband Paul, of Marlborough, Mass., Mary Peel and husband Andrew, of Salem, Ore., Cathy Hall, of Iowa City; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; step daughter, Penny Westfall, of Van Meter, Iowa; step sons, Don Schwenn and wife Wilda, of Branson, Mo., Dan Schwenn and wife Stephanie, of Loveland, Colo.; 5 step grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; sister, Helen Willsie, of Denver; and brother, Howard Hall, of Quarryville, Pa.

Visitation with the family Monday 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Celebration of Max's life Tuesday 10:30 a.m. at Broadway Methodist Church. Pastor Marvin D. Arnpriester, officiant. Luncheon will follow immediately and graveside services 3:00 p.m. at Rosehill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa. Military rites will be tendered at the grave. Family has suggested memorials to Broadway Methodist Church.
