The memorial service for Karen R. DeMots will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15 at the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ in Pleasant Grove with Rev. John Kester officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Pleasant Grove. Mrs. DeMots, 59, of Rochester, passed away peacefully at her home on June 10 following a lengthy illness.

Karen Rita Gammell was born Aug. 10, 1950 in Pleasant Grove to Lawrence and Myrna (Van Heusen) Gammell. She grew up in Pleasant Grove where she attended rural school. She attended elementary school and high school in Stewartville, graduating from Stewartville High School in 1968. On Oct. 17, 1970 she married John W. DeMots at the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ. Following their marriage the couple lived in Pleasant Grove a few years before moving to Rochester in 1974, where Karen, John and their dachshunds have continued to make their home.

Karen was employed as an office manager for 13 years at Equifax and then 14 years for Morton Buildings, both of Rochester. John was employed as a dental technician at Trachsel Dental Studios in Rochester for a number of years.

Karen was a lifelong member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and enjoyed gardening, making crafts and yarn art. Many have been blessed with her handmade gifts.

Survivors include her loving husband of almost 40 years, John; two brothers, Victor (Linda) Gammell of Oronoco and Wayne Gammell of Rochester, as well as several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews from both sides of her family. Preceding her in death were her parents, a sister, Phyllis Lee, and a sister-in-law, Jean Gammell.

The DeMots family extends their sincere appreciation to Seasons Hospice, the members of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and her neighbor, Ken Mueller, for their loving support, especially during the last few days. Karen is now in the hands of the Father in Heaven. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church Tuesday afternoon. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville, Minnesota
