February 3, 1884 ---- April 22, 1941

Harry Lee Schmucker was born at Lanark, Ill., Feb. 3, 1884. At the age of four years he moved with his parents to Sheldon, Iowa, moving to Ireton in 1898. Mr. Schmucker was graduated from the Ireton high school with the class of 1900. After finishing school, he worked in stores at Ireton and Hawarden, leaving Hawarden in 1904 to enter the U. S. railway mail service. He had continued in this service for nearly 37 years.

On June 1, 1910, he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Jones of Eagle Grove. To them were born two children, Morton, now 24, a teacher in the Pocahontas schools, and Margaret Jane, who lived but a short time, passing away soon after birth, April 22, 1922. There remain besides his wife and son, his mother, Mrs. Annie Schmucker, age 81, and one brother, Earl, of Rapid City, S. Dak. Mr. Schmucker was a faithful member of the Congregational church for over 30 years. He taught in the Sunday school, was a member of the board of trustees for nine years and was serving as head usher at the time of his death. He was influential in getting young men to assist him in this work and take part in other church activities. He was also a member of the Masonic lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. His entire life was built along the lines of fairness, honesty, and loyalty. His passing is greatly regretted. The world can do well with more men of the type of Harry Lee Schmucker.
