December 24, 1942 --- July 6, 2017

SANTEE, CA - Lyla Prince died peacefully surrounded by her loving family after a two year struggle with cancer. She was born in Buffalo, NY to Desdemona and Lyle Lathrop, and spent her childhood years in Lanesboro, MA, and Belmond, IA. She married Albert Prince in 1960, and they were married for 57 years. Lyla's passion was to make those around her comfortable and was known as everyone's grandmother. She loved teenagers and enjoyed teaching new catechists. She was also very involved with the church in other ways, such as the women's retreat planning. She was a nurse and diabetic educator for the homeless population at St. Vincent dePaul Village for many years. She mentored nursing students from Point Loma University, and served on the smoking cessation board of the California-American Association of Diabetes Educators. She was a member of the East County Rose Society, and regularly entered roses into competitions across the county. Lyla loved to cook, garden, attend plays and be with family.

Lyla is survived by her husband Albert "Buster" Prince, daughters Marilyn Prince and Julia Prince Kosobucki, three grandchildren, one great granddaughter, brother Scott Lathrop, and sister-in-law Rosamond Prince.

SERVICES: Lyla will be cremated and buried next to her beloved son, Stephen Henry Prince in Dalton, MA. There will be a service and reception at Guardian Angels Church, 9310 Dalehurst Rd. in Santee [California] on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 10:00 am.
