A telegram received yesterday announced the death of Theodore Haberkorn at Eagle Grove, Iowa, but contained no particulars. His sister, Mrs. Henry Haberkorn and her husband and John Derr, of Jasper, Mo., who have been visiting here, brother- in-law of the deceased, and his son, Theodore, left last evening for Eagle Grove.
Theodore Haberkorn was well known to everyone in Chatsworth and vicinity, having resided here for many years, and formerly conducted a cement block business here and build many of the cement walks in this city. He left here several years ago and went to Oklahoma but returned here for a short time and then went to Eagle Grove, Iowa, which place has been his home since. He was a popular citizen of Chatsworth and had many warm friends here who were pained to hear of his death. Full particulars will be given next week.

From the Times-Gazette of Eagle Grove, Iowa, we learn that the cause of the death of Theodore Haberkorn was coal gas, which escaped from a hard coal stove in his office, he having a sleeping room in connection. The last that was seen of Theodore was on Monday, Jan. 26, and his dead body was not found until Wednesday. He told people of Eagle Grove that he was going to leave early Tuesday morning on a business trip to points in South Dakota, and this was the reason that he was not missed. It was simply by accident that the body was found as soon as it was. A gentleman wishing to see Theodore on business, and not knowing that Theodore was supposed to be away, went to his office and finding the door unlocked walked in and discovered Theodore dead. The Iowa paper speaks in the highest praise of Theodore and states that coming to Eagle Grove unknown "he gradually gathered about him an ever widening circle of friends and acquaintances who recognized in him the sterling worth of an honest man."
Theodore Haberkorn was born in Baden, Germany, Nov. 8, 1867, and when 18 years of age came to America alone. Upon his arrival in this country he first located at Ottawa, Ill., and here he learned the trade of brick laying. After a few years he came to Chatsworth and was a resident here and was in business for many years. He operated the cement block factory here and built many of the sidewalks in this city. He went form here to Eagle Grove, Iowa, and entered the same line of work and had built up a flourishing business. Teddy, as he was familiarly known here, made friends of all his acquaintances and all were pained to hear of his untimely demise. Funeral services were held from Sacred Heart Catholic church at Eagle Grove, on Saturday morning, Feb. 7, under the auspices of the Knights of Columbus and the Modern Woodmen of America societies of which orders he was a member.
At the time of his demise he was survived by his aged father, John Haberkorn, who resides with his daughter here, Mrs. Henry Haberkorn; his aged mother, who resided with her daughter, Mrs. Mary Block, at Renwick, Iowa, but who died the week following his funeral; by his brother, Julius Haberkorn, of Humboldt, Iowa; his sister, Mrs. Mary Block, of Renwick, Iowa, and another sister, Mrs. Henry Haberkorn, who resides here.
